PERIOD DRAMA: Victorian re-enactment society, The Seven Dials Rapscallions will be among the performers at the event |
THE ageing graves of a Castle Bromwich churchyard have helped
inspire an event which will shed new light on the area’s rich history.
Organisers of the Castle Bromwich Beer and Heritage Festival
have investigated the long-forgotten stories of those buried at St Mary and St
Margaret’s cemetery.
These hidden histories will be used as a jumping-off point
for re-enactments stretching back over the centuries.
The different time zones will take in Tudor music and
Medieval medicine, Victorian street
urchins and the men and women who did their bit in the darks days of World War
II.
The ambitious event, which has received support from the Heritage
Lottery Fund, will also feature stalls, artwork and trips up the church bell tower.
For those who like a tipple or two, there will also be over a dozen beers and
ciders on tap.
Groups including Castle Bromwich Youth & Community Partnership, Castle Bromwich Hall Gardens, St Mary & St Margaret's, Castle Bromwich Bell Ringers and Castle Bromwich Hall Hotel have helped organise the weekend's entertainment.
HERITAGE: The churchyard at St Mary and St Margaret's helped inspire the event, with activities taking place in the vicinity of the church and nearby Castle Bromwich Hall Gardens. |
The Heritage Festival will take place Saturday, May 10 (11am-4pm) and Sunday, May 11 (12noon-4pm). The beer festival is 12noon-10pm on the Saturday and 12noon-4pm on the Sunday. Most events are free, although there will be admission charges for the WW2 activities at Castle Bromwich Hall Gardens.
